Purchase a Router and Network Cables

That part will be accomplished by your Cable Company or Internet Service Provider (ISP). The router will then be plugged into your modem. Each of your computers should be hooked up to the router using the network (Cat 5) cable you purchased. It's a relatively simple process that sounds more technical or complicated than it is. Here are the steps broken down:
- If your principal computer is currently hooked up to the Internet, unplug the network cable from the back of your computer and place it into the port on the back of the router labeled Internet, WAN, or WLAN. If it's not already hooked up, plug the network cable into the modem, and the other end of the cable into the Internet, WAN, or WLAN port on the router.
- Plug in the router and wait a few minutes. The light will come on the front of the router, so you know the connection is established.
- Shut down the computer.
